FAQ
Do I live at your facility?
We are not an inpatient residential facility however, should you join us from out of state, we’re happy to help you arrange housing and transportation. To see how we can help, call us today.
Do you offer individual therapy appointments?
We offer individual therapy as part of our program. As the first licensed community-based mental health treatment center in California, we believe in the power of community. Oftentimes, our clients don’t realize the endless benefits of finding an invested community of mental health therapists, like-minded people, and fellow patients. For this reason, we place an emphasis on clinician lead group therapy, while simultaneously providing ample opportunity for one-on-one therapy as well.
How much does it cost?
Our programs are designed to cater to individual needs and goals. For this reason, it is both difficult and futile to provide a general cost. Nonetheless, most of our clients fund their programs using their private insurance with companies like Anthem, Aetna, or United Healthcare. At Barn Life, we’re a certified Tricare provider catering to current and former military members and their families.
Is your staff qualified to help people with severe mental illness?
Yes, our staff is certified by the Joint Commission for exceptionally high-quality mental health services and for our commitment to continuous improvement. Likewise, Barn Life Recovery is certified by the California Department of Social Services and is recognized by all major insurance carriers. In fact, we worked to include a community-based licensing category in California and were the first to receive this credential.
Can I stay in the program for more than 120 days? Can I exit the program before 30 days?
With your help and guidance, we craft a treatment program designed based on your struggles, your situation, and your end goal. Whether you join us for 7 days or 7 months, we provide ongoing case management, aftercare, and life skills groups aimed at preparing you for your next chapter.
Do most clients work while in your program?
Each client’s goals, needs and life circumstances are unique. Some find it’s time for an employment break and others ask for help to find a job. As for your next step, we’re happy to help you make an informed decision. Give an admissions coordinator a call today!
Does Barn Life provide meals?
Our mission is simple – help people. We allow you to bring your own lunch, snacks and drinks and provide a community kitchen space to prepare them. However, if our clients cannot provide their own meals, we always make sure to figure out a solution.
Does Barn Life help people with substance use disorder or drug and alcohol addictions and dependencies?
Yes, we do! Although, we view substance abuse as the secondary manifestation of a core issue – mental illness. For this reason, we are not a drug addiction center, we are a mental health treatment center. Nonetheless, our mental health therapies provide you with the tools, skills and community needed to rebuild, restore, and recover.
I’m in active addiction, can you help me detox?
First, we believe that addiction is a symptom of mental illness. It is a manifestation of imbalance. To restore this balance, we are committed to treating the root of the problem – the mental health condition. We ask that prospective clients in active addiction complete their detox program prior to joining us. In fact, our programs are unique because they close the gap between detox treatments (which often don’t address mental health) and weekly therapy (which oftentimes is not enough support for the newly recovering addict). Here, we step boldly into the gap to support your journey.
Will you prescribe and distribute my medication?
Traditionally, patients come to our programs after they have begun a medication program. For this reason, Barn Life does not distribute or prescribe medication. However, we do have a psychiatrist on staff at all times. Although we work to help you take medication as prescribed, our role is less about medication management and more about providing both Joint Commission Accredited and holistic mental health tools and coping mechanisms.
Can I attend a free community event anytime?
From sunrise qi going to monthly moon meditations, our free community events are open to anyone from prospective clients, staff and alumni to out-of-town visitors and the general public. Most events do not require registration but we suggest arriving early with any required supplies (usually a yoga mat is helpful).

The most common insurance providers we accept include: Tricare West, Anthem, Magellan, Cigna, Aetna, United Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Shield of CA, Blue Shield of OK, Blue Shield of TX, Blue Shield of Alaska, Blue Shield of NC, and more!
